How to Achieve the Perfect Everything Shower

In 2022, the term “everything shower” became popular once girls on TikTok began talking about the shower in which they do a shower with, well, everything. These showers typically include masks for both your face and hair, shaving, deep conditioning, and then a 15-step skincare routine afterward.

Even though these showers usually require you to take four hours out of your day, it is truly something I look forward to every week. Being the self-care queen that I am, I feel that I have achieved the perfect recipe for an everything shower, and here is how I do so.

1. Dry Brushing

Dry brushing is a step to do before getting in the shower. It is part of the exfoliation process, and it allows for pores to be unclogged. It can also promote lymphatic drainage and improve blood circulation. When the pores are unclogged, sweat can be released more easily throughout your body, allowing toxins to exit efficiently. I got my dry brush on Amazon, and I usually brush all over my body in an upward motion before my shower, applying slight pressure.

2. Hair Oiling

A lot of people usually believe that putting oils in your hair isn’t beneficial as it can only lead to greasy hair. In reality, it is actually the opposite, and it is essential to oil your hair at least one to two times a week. Hair oiling allows for scalp hydration and for an increase in hair growth. This step also prevents breakage and gives your hair the perfect shine. I use the Mielle Oil and massage it through my scalp before my shower, letting it sit for about three hours.

3. Hair Mask

When your hair needs that extra hydration, hair masks are perfect for giving your hair extra moisture. After constant styling with heat and having my hair colored, I always make sure to incorporate a hair mask into my routine. Hair masks are also perfect for getting rid of frizz, soothing your scalp, and strengthening your hair. My favorite masks are from Gisou or Ouai, and I even love using one from Trader Joe’s.

4. Face Mask

Everyone loves a good face mask, as it leaves you with glowing skin and also gives you the perfect “spa” feeling. Luckily, there are so many options to choose from that can perfectly fit your skin type. My personal favorites as a person with combination skin are the Innisfree face mask and the Plantifique face mask. I also love using the sheet face masks from Facetory when I am looking for an easy application and extra hydration.

5. Body Scrub

So, we finally made it in the shower. Once in the shower, I love to do an extra step of exfoliation, making sure to fully get rid of all of the dead skin from the previous step of dry brushing. There are so many options to choose from when it comes to body scrubs, however, I always find myself buying the Tree Hut scrubs or the ones from Sol de Janeiro. Both smell scrumptious.

6. Shaving

I, personally, love the feeling of getting rid of every single hair molecule that exists on my body. I always make sure to exfoliate beforehand, as this opens up the hair follicles. When shaving, I always use the Tree Hut Shave Oil or I have been recently loving the Brazilian Bare Shave Syrup. Both are perfect for achieving the look of a hairless mole rat if you know what I mean.

7. Body Wash

Once my body is free of hair, it is time to make it free of dirt and bacteria. I always go in with a silicone loofah, as regular loofahs can easily build up with mold and other bacteria after use. For my body washes, I love using the Method body washes, or the Sol de Janeiro body wash. I find both perfect for cleaning my body and having a scent that lasts throughout the day.

8. Shampoo and Conditioner

After a good deep cleanse of my body, it is now time to pay attention to my hair. After rinsing out the hair mask, I go in with shampoo, using a scalp massager to work the shampoo thoroughly through my hair. During an everything shower, I always double-shampoo my hair, meaning I do a typical wash once, rinse, and then do the same process again. After doing so, I go in with conditioner, only on the ends of my hair of course, and let it sit for about 5 minutes. While it’s sitting, I usually wash my face or have a deep thought session. My current shampoo and conditioner of choice is the Moroccan Oil Hydrating shampoo and conditioner, and I love using the Youth to the People face wash while my conditioner is settling in.

9. Body Lotion and Oiling

ree

After your time in the water, it is time to give your skin extra moisture and hydration. Once I get out of the shower, I always make sure to lotion my body while my skin is still damp as it retains moisture and also just makes you feel super soft and smooth. My favorite lotions to use are the Aveeno Stress Relieving Lotion or the Eos Hydrating Lightweight Lotion, and these are also perfect for smelling fresh throughout the day. If I want my body to feel as soft as a blanket, I go in with Jojoba Oil to protect and nourish my skin, as it is full of nutrients like Vitamin E and B, and other antioxidants such as copper and zinc.

10. Hair Care

ree

After my everything shower, I always make sure my hair is styled so I don’t have to wash it again for the next few days. I always start with a leave-in conditioner, and so far I have been loving the Gisou leave-in conditioner. It retains the moisture in my hair from the hair mask and hair oil, and before I blow dry my hair, I always make sure to use the Gisou heat protectant spray, which gets rid of frizz and gives my hair an extra layer of protection from the heat. Once blow-dried, I use the Gisou hair oil to add extra shine and extra moisture to my hair.

And there you have it. I usually set a routine of an everything shower every Sunday and Wednesday, but I would say up to three times a week is the perfect amount. It is always important to follow through with your normal skincare routine. Happy showering, angels!
